Dain Brademan, PhD
Dain earned his Ph.D. in Analytical Chemistry from the University of Wisconsin–Madison, where he worked under the mentorship of Joshua Coon, Ph.D. His research focused on developing computational pipelines and web-based platforms, including IPSA and Argonaut, to support large-scale mass spectrometry (MS)-based studies in proteomics, lipidomics, and metabolomics. These innovative tools enabled more effective data dissemination and analysis for complex biological investigations.
Following his Ph.D., Dain continued as a postdoctoral fellow at the Morgridge Institute for Research, jointly mentored by Judith Simcox, Ph.D., and Joshua Coon, Ph.D. In this role, he led an industrial collaboration with Thermo Fisher Scientific, exploring how real-time analysis of small molecule MS data could optimize lipid profiling studies. Lipids, which are essential for energy storage, membrane structure, and cellular signaling, often pose analytical challenges due to the structural similarity of isomers. Dain's work demonstrated how real-time lipid spectral analysis could differentiate lipid classes on-the-fly, enabling dynamic adjustments to MS methods for more precise characterization of lipid species.
